Good morning bread friends!
Wow is this community remarkable. π€
Iβm blown away by the encouraging feedback to my last email. In my last newsletter I shared that bread making will be coming back in full force soon. The outpouring of support and enthusiasm was just the lift that I needed. Taking on a project like this can be nerve wracking. AΒ home basement remodel is stressful for its own reasons. But mustering the courage to build a dedicated micro-bakery in the basement requires a great deal of trust that the community will be there to support the bakery. Otherwise the investment simply doesnβt make much sense.
I never doubted that this community would want to support Bread & Justiceβs next steps, but boy does your offers of support bolster my spirit.
Several of you have asked how you can directly support the micro bakery buildout. Iβm putting together a list of specific ways to help, and Iβll share that out next time. For now, thank you for being here.
Some of you joined this newsletter community in the past couple of weeks. Welcome! Weβre so glad youβre here! Plenty of you have been here for several years. Buying bread through the height of the pandemic, and learning together about nonprofits that are working to make our community stronger and more just. Thank you so much for being here for this journey. Iβm so grateful for you. And Iβm so excited for our next chapter together.
Speaking of next chapter⦠would you like a behind the scenes peak at the basement project?
Here is a picture that I took recently of the basement progress. This part of the basement is where we are building the bakery. When I say micro-bakery, you should know that the βmicroβ is real. But this beautiful little corner of the world will be dedicated to mixing, shaping, and baking bread (and justice π) for our community.
Stay tuned. The basement construction is moving at a good pace, so Iβll have more updates on the bakery buildout soon.

Finallyβ¦ I have a quick question for you. Do you happen to know anyone who likes pizza? π€π
Iβm excited to share that Iβm going to be teaching another virtual pizza class next month (April 3rd) in partnership with Edible Madison, and my friends at Pasture & Plenty.
This is another Pizza with Purpose event, where weβll be making pizza together, and also raising money for two local nonprofits that are fighting against food insecurity in our community.
You might not know anyone who likes pizzaβ¦ but if you doβ¦ picture that person. Or imagine the last group of people that you shared pizza with. Now please consider sharing this event with them π because weβll be having a huge pizza making party. It is going to be super fun β all while learning & giving back together!

As youβll see, whether youβre in the Madison area or not, this event is open to everyone. If youβre nearby, you can pick up a pre packaged box of local ingredients from Pasture & Plenty. For anyone else, you can simply buy a virtual-only ticket and BYO ingredients for the pizza making party! In either case, a portion of each ticket will be donated to Community Action Coalitionβs Food Security Programs and Community Hunger Solutions.
Iβm looking forward to seeing some of you there.
Thanks for being a part of this community!
More to come soon!
Cheers,
