Good morning bread friends!
Bread Club is back for May!
It is the beginning of the month, which means that Iβm taking orders for Bread Club!
Bread Club is a subscription to pre-order sourdough bread for 4 Saturdays throughout the month. This subscription is perfect for anyone who knows that they'll want to get bread every week and wants to avoid the risk of pre-orders selling out before they get around to placing an order.
This is a 4-week commitment and a refund can't be issued for any missed pick up, so please make sure to sign up only if you can pick up for each pickup date this month.
For the month of May: youβll notice on your Bread Club order a note that Iβll be taking off the week of May 24th, so there will be no bread orders or bread club on Saturday May 24th
You can click here to signup now ππ₯
Two notes about Bread Club:
1) There are a limited number of spots for Bread Club each month.
2) Signing up for the month does not auto renew your subscriptions, so for now youβll want to make sure to re-order each month.
Donations given for April
As most of you already know, Bread & Justice is a philanthropic enterprise where we donate 100% of our profits to a different nonprofit each month. As you may know, For the month of April we were donating to The Beacon. At the start of the month Melissa wrote a letter sharing her experience visiting The Beacon, and part of our inspiration for why we wanted to support this shelter that serves over 300 people experiencing homelessness each day. With the profits from each loaf of bread that you bought last month, we are able to donate $313 to support their ongoing service to the community. Thank you for being a part of strengthening our community together.
Standing up for our community
This month weβre raising funds to donate to Operation Fresh Start. Operation Fresh Start (OFS), is a local organization that empowers emerging adults (16-24) on a path to self-sufficiency through education, mentoring, and employment training.
The Legacy program is the cornerstone program of Operation Fresh Start. It is designed to empower individuals ages 16-24 in Dane County⦠where with more than 1,000 program hours, participants work with OFS teachers to complete a personalized education plan, earning their high school diploma and driver's license on their way to developing career-sustaining skills.
Participants join either a construction or conservation crew, contributing to the community by constructing affordable housing or enhancing city and county parks. At OFS, young adults receive paid, hands-on training under the guidance of supervisors who also serve as mentors, fostering both professional growth and personal development.
OFSβs programming disproportionally serves low to very low income youth, the majority of which are racial and ethnic minorities in our community.
Here are some data and student feedback on the Legacy program, via OFSβs annual report.
Wellβ¦ as of Friday, the Trump administration has sent notices to states and AmeriCorps grantees that their grants were being terminated, explaining βthe award no longer effectuates agency prioritiesβ, and directing grantees to immediately shut down the projects.
This includes eliminating funding for this successful OFS grant, eliminating funding for a dozen other programs and organizations in Madison, and eliminating funding for dozens of community service grants all across Wisconsin.
These cuts also immediately eliminate jobs for about 430 AmeriCorps members in Wisconsin.
Gov. Tony Evers has announced that Wisconsin is among two dozens states that are suing the Trump administration for early termination of the grants.
The intentional harm that our federal government is doing to communities across our country is baffling.
And while many people and organizations in positions of influence remain silent about these injustices hurled upon our communityβ¦ Iβm grateful to be a part of this community with you. Where one person at a time (and perhaps one loaf at a time) weβre going to find ways to take care of each other β in spite of the governmentβs agenda to divide us.
Thanks for your support and encouragement. Weβre going to make it through this.
Cheers,
Mo
