Good morning bread friends! I hope youβre all doing very well. Iβm excited to share that weβre accepting pre-orders for bread again this week! My family had a delightful spring break. This was our first family vacation in over two years. It was a great reminder of how restorative some time away from home can be. If you have school-age kids and had any type of spring break, I hope yours was fun and restful as well.
Pizza With Purpose Q&A
Last week I announced that Iβd be hosting a virtual pizza-making class later this month. I was bouncing with excitement when I finally got to share this news with you all. Thanks to those of you who have already signed up for this fun event that weβll be having together on April 21st. We got a few good questions by email so I thought Iβd answer them here:
Q: To participate in the class do I need to own a pizza stone?
A: Nope! Weβll walk through how to a pizza stone, but Iβll be demonstrating on a normal sheet pan/cookie tray that you might have in your kitchen.
Q: Do I need a special pizza oven?
A: Definitely not. Weβll be making pizzas from our home ovens.
Q: Do I need to have a kitchen scale?
Iβm so glad you asked! A kitchen scale is my number one recomended investment for anyone interested in bread or pizza making. It is an absolute game changer for managing consistency in your final product. However, this class will be designed with the assumption that not everyone has a kitchen scale, and will be very friendly to volumentric measuring (aka with cups).
Q: Can my whole family participate?
A: Absolutely! From start to finish, weβll be making pizza in just over an hour, and youβll have enough to feed up to 4 people. Itβd be a great thing to do together with your family, or friends.
If you have any other questions, feel free to email me. If you donβt have any questions, you can go sign up now for our #PizzaWithPurpose virtual pizza-making class :)
Our Donations from March
Bread & Justice was proud to partner with the World Central Kitchen by donating 100% of Marchβs profits to them. Over a month into this unjust war that Russia has waged on Ukraine, WCK is now serving nearly 300,000 daily meals in the region. They are working to feed families (largely women and children) as more than 10 million people have been displaced as a result of this war. For reference, the population of the state of Wisconsin is only 5.7M people. After all of the bread that you purchased, and all of the generous donations that were made directly to Bread & Justice on our website, we are proud to donate a total of $411 this month toΒ World Central Kitchen as they continue to support families in Ukraine.
Aprilβs Nonprofit Partner
Bread & Justice is a philanthropic enterprise, where each month we donate 100% of our profits to a different nonprofit working to make the world more just. As I thought about what to donate to this month - I decided I want to double down on our partner that Pasture & Plenty and I are supporting with Pizza With Purpose. As I mentioned, The Nehemiah Center For Urban Leadershipβs Reentry Services Group Homes provides a wide array of culturally competent and culturally relevant programs to meet the needs of men who are returning home after jail or prison. Their wrap-around services (Housing, Mentoring, Employment Support, Court Advocacy, & Case Management) increase the likelihood that the participants will transition back to society successfully and become contributing members of our community. They do fantastic work, and Iβm excited to support them this April with proceeds from Pizza With Purpose, and by donating 100% of our profits from Bread & Justice.
Thanks for caring so much about Bread & Justice.
Cheers,
Mo
