Iโve been working on a secret project for about 6 months.
I know. I know. Why the secrets?
Usually, I keep you all in the loop about all the things that Iโm working on. And in this case, I actually did let you see the beginnings of this plan back in aย newsletter that I wrote in Octoberย when I shared about the private pizza class that I did for the Madison schoolsโ Black Excellence Program. After doing a couple of these private pizza classes now, Iโve decided to partner with Pasture & Plenty to begin offering virtual Pizza making classes as part of a new joint program called #PizzaWithPurpose. It is insane how excited I am about being able to bring this dream to life. And if you guessed that it would be a cool fundraiser, you are precisely correct.ย
When is Pizza With Purpose?
Thursday, April 21st at 6pm Central Time
Where is Pizza With Purpose?
This class will be held virtually.
What is Pizza With Purpose?
Okay, but first, let me tell you about my partner in this project.ย Pasture & Plentyย is a kitchen incubator for women and people of color. They are also a Madison-based meal kit service and farm-to-table deli and catering company. I really appreciate that the owner, Christy McKenzie, shares our vision for how a business can be designed to be a force for social good in a community. It has been a pleasure getting to know her and the team over there through conversation, doing work together, and by watching their ongoing organizing efforts to keep supporting the #BakersAgainstRacism movement here in Madison.ย
And secondly, let me tell you what weโre raising support for.ย Each year hundreds of people complete their jail or prison sentence and return to our community here in the Madison area. The vast majority of these people are men, and a disproportionate share of those men are African American. Involvement in the criminal justice system remains heavily stigmatized and often results in enormous barriers for these returning citizens to obtaining gainful employment and stable housing, which unfotunately often leads to recidivism and re-incarceration.
The Nehemiah Center For Urban Leadershipโs Reentry Services Group Homes provides a wide array of culturally competent and culturally relevant programs to meet the needs of men who are returning home after jail or prison. Their wrap-around services (Housing, Mentoring, Employment Support, Court Advocacy, & Case Management) increase the likelihood that the participants will transition back to society successfully and become contributing members of our community. They do fantastic work, and Iโm excited to announce that proceeds from this Pizza With Purpose class will benefitย Nehemiah Center For Urban Leadershipโs Reentry Services Group Homes.
Pizza With Purpose is a virtual pizza-making party and social justice fundraiser.

Alrightโฆ so what questions can I answer for you about this class?
Iโm really excited to put this on, and it would mean a lot to me to get to interact with the Bread & Justice family in this class. I hope you consider signing up for this experience. You all have been a huge part of me ever working up the courage to execute this dream. Thank you!
Cheers,
Mo
P.S. I mentioned last week that Iโm on spring break from Thursday bread week. So next Tuesday (April 5th) Iโll be taking pre-orders like usual.
