Good morning bread friends!
Flew across the country for baby snuggles
Last week I shared that I would be taking off from Thursdayβs bake day in order to visit my younger brother and his wife in Houston and meet my new niece. I should not have been surprised, but that email got more responses than any email Iβve sent since I started this newsletter. Thank you all for the many well-wishes. It was a wonderful trip. Seeing my little brother as a father was a really neat experience, and meeting Zamora was an awesome experience. It was a short trip, but we had a blast doing long stroller walks and cuddling a bunch on the couch. Considering it has been more than 3 years since my youngest child was this littleβ¦ it was also fun to see that Iβm still pretty decent at soothing a baby.
3x Donations Again!
Our routine goes that each month we select a different social justice nonprofit to donate 100% of our profits to. As you know, during the month of June we were down for a couple of weeks with a broken oven, but that didnβt stop this community from being remarkably generous. I shared a couple of weeks ago that we were still able to donate $403 to Rooted to support them as they work to teach youth in the Madison area to grow their own food and steward land through community gardening. I want to thank the ongoing generosity of the Ryan family (Britt and Adam) and theΒ FoxwellΒ familyΒ (Gracie & Andrew) for each matching that contribution.Β In the end, the Bread & Justice community has supported RootedΒ with contributions totaling $1,209 for the month of June!Β
Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies
As a reminder, this is the last week to buy bread where the profits will go to Family Health La Clinica β a Wisconsin health clinic that supports vulnerable populations including migrant farm workers. Someone in this awesome Bread & Justice community sent me information about this book Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies that goes into great detail about the lived realities of migrant farmworkers and their families. I havenβt started reading it yet, but Iβm looking forward to deepening my learning in this area. If you decide to read it also (or if youβve already read it), please do let me know.
Preorders for Thursdayβs bread are open now
I updated the website a little later than usual this morning. However, you can go there now and preorder your bread for this week. Sorry if you had checked once already this morning and it wasnβt updated. We had a bit of a production crew in the kitchen starting at 5:30 am this morning. Iβll tell you all more about that another time. π€
I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday.
Cheers,
Mo the baker
P.S. THE BUCKS ARE CHAMPIONS! πππ
Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies is an excellent read. Really brings home how we all struggle in the current food system, especially those who come to the states undocumented to work. It had a strong influence on my current path.
