Good morning bread friends :)
For those interested in pre-ordering bread for pick up this Thursday - this is a friendly reminder that we have bread available on the site right now.
Last week I pointed out that we are currently in National Pizza Month and asked if anyone has any special plans for how to celebrate. Hopefully, I inspired some of you to come up with some special plans for this beloved month.
My most exciting pizza-related plans for this month are happening this week. On Thursday, I will have the great privilege of teaching a virtual pizza-making class to over 150 families here in the Madison area.
Pasture and Plenty (a cool local farm-to-table meal kit company, deli, and food business incubator) is partnering with Madison Metropolitan School Districtβs Black Excellence program to offer virtual cooking classes for Madison students this October. With live cooking classes every Thursday in October, the program highlights Madison-area Black chefs, teaches about the science of food, and utilizes locally grown produce with meal kits that are free of charge for families. Seeing myself referred to as a βchefβ in the news makes me feel like Iβm fibbing on my resumeβ¦ but honestly, Iβm crazy excited to be a part of this!
Being invited to teach a pizza making class to a sold-out audience of local students who are eager to be learning cooking skills is just about the coolest way that I could imagine spending my National Pizza Month. So I just had to share this exciting update with you all.
The other way that Iβm enjoying National Pizza Month is by combining the celebration with my own birthday! It turns out that National Pizza Month not only occurs in the same month as my birthday - but it started the same year that I was born! So this Saturday when my birthday rolls around - Iβm going to celebrate my birthday with two pizza-related activities. The first is that weβre going to make mozzarella cheese from scratch as a family activity. The second way that Iβll be celebrating is by perusing a new pizza book that Iβll be picking up for myself this week. Steve Dolinsky (host of my favorite pizza podcast) just released a new book called The Ultimate Chicago Pizza Guide: A History of Squares & Slices in the Windy City. Since adopting Chicago as his home some 25 years ago, Steve has become the foremost expert on Chicago Pizza, and one of the most knowledgable people about pizza across the country. Iβm really looking forward to diving into this book this weekend. Itβll be a a fun time daydreaming about some of the pizzas that I had growing up while simultaneously making a list of pizzas that I need to still eat.
Thanks for making it all the way through another pizza heavy edition of Bread & Justice. Canβt wait to hear from you about any pizza plans that you have for this month.
Cheers,
Mo
