Good morning bread friends!Β
I hope your week is starting off well. I'm excited to share bread with you this week! For those of you that are local and would like to pre-order bread, you can go to our website now to pre-order a loaf of sourdough to pickup this Thursday.Β
February Donations
As our readers know, Bread & Justice is a philanthropic enterprise where we donate 100% of our profits to a different nonprofit each month. I was proud to partner with the Foundation for Black Women's Wellness for the month of February. After all of the profits from each loaf of bread that you bought we were able to donate $407 towards supporting changing the health trajectories of black girls and women in Dane county for the better. In addition to their ambassador program and some of their in-person health and wellness learning opportunities... The Foundation continues to be a leading voice and advocate for Black Women and families in Dane County and across Wisconsin, ensuring Black Women are shaping the policies, practices, and narratives that most impact their lives. If you haven't already, you should consider checking out some of their publications, reports, and policy recommendations regarding advancing Black women's health and health outcomes for black babies.Β
Good Vibes Challenge
Obviously, there is a lot of heaviness in the world right now. However, a couple of conversations this week have really helped to lift me out of the fog of despair. In both of these uplifting conversations, we turned the discussion back to thinking about some way that we can contribute tangibly good vibes into our local community.
I have found that recognizing my own agency is a big component of keeping myself sane when the world feels so crazy. Since this reflection was so valuable to me, I will pass along the encouragement to you.
My encouragement/challenge to you today is to write down (on paper, or in your phone, or in a text to a friend) one thing you're going to do this week to be generous to someone else.Β
I will note that I almost typed that you should "do something to make someone else smile". But that feels like too high of a bar considering we can't control how other people respond to our generosity. Iβm simply going to commit to finding a spirit of gratitude and generosity, and using that to put one little act of kindness into the world. Regardless of how anyone responds, or even if no one notices me doing the kindnessβ¦ Iβll know that I made the world some percent better. And then Iβll reflect on the hundreds of you who are doing the same thing this weekβ¦ and Iβll smile knowing that together we made a cold world slightly warmer.
Thats all for today.
Be good to each other.
Cheers,
Mo
