Good morning bread friends!
Welcome to Spring! Sunday was the first spring day, and I don't know about you… but I can feel that change is in the air. My son (Cyrus) asked me to play outside with him yesterday in the middle of the day. I'm so glad that I said yes when he asked. The weather was gorgeous, and our time outside together was a glorious little interlude to an otherwise busy day.
Is anyone else doing garden planning already? I know plenty of my readers are in climates where gardens may have been active for a solid month now, but we're just about to turn the corner and enter the gardening season here in the upper midwest. I'll have to tell you all more about our gardening plans sometime. We're excited about the harvest that 2022 may have in store!
Spring Break for pre-orders
This community of bread lovers is such a beautiful thing. Every week I look forward to getting to bake bread for you all. This is why I have mixed emotions when I share with you that I won't be accepting pre-orders for Thursday bread this week or next week. I know some new people on this list are eager to order their first loaf… not to mention the regulars who are ready for their fix. So sorry for the last-minute notice about no bread this week, but I hope I get a chance to share bread with you in a few weeks.
The reason why I can't do Thursday loaves is that I'll be traveling the second half of this week, and again the second half of next week. While traveling, you can rest assured that I'll be actively on the hunt for good bakeries. So if I find anything exciting to report back on, I'll be sure to let you all know.
What About Bread Club?
There won't be any change or disruption for this month's Bread Club members. I've got warm bread coming out of the oven for you this morning, and Tuesday pickups will be at the same time this week & next.
It has been a while since I talked about Bread Club… so for anyone who might be interested… Bread Club is a monthly subscription for sourdough bread every Tuesday of the month. This subscription is perfect for anyone who knows that they'll want to get bread every week and avoid the risk of pre-orders selling out before they get around to placing their order.
There are limited spots available each month for Bread Club. However, if you'd like to be on the list to be notified when a spot opens up, please reply to this email and let me know.
3X February's donations to The Foundation for Black Women's Wellness
I want to pause to acknowledge that this community is full of generosity. Every month we get to donate to social justice nonprofits because of all of your kind donations. For example, last month, we gave $407 to the Foundation for Black Women's Wellness with the profits from all of the bread sold, combined with the donations made directly to Bread & Justice. And two families that are part of our Bread & Justice community once again have decided to match these donations. Thanks to the generous matching contributions of Britt & Adam Ryan and Gracie & Andrew Foxwell, this community contributed a total of $1,221 to the Foundation for Black Women's Wellness. I'm so glad that we got to work together to support this incredible nonprofit committed to empowering the mind, body, & spirit of Black Women here in Madison, Wisconsin.
Cheers,
Mo
P.S. Speaking of amazing black women… if you haven't watched or read yesterday's remarks from Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, please consider watching the video below and breathe in the moment as she accepts her nomination to the US Supreme Court.
In addition to the sweet words to her family, I was moved when she acknowledged her college roommates who were there that day to support her and her high school debate coach, who couldn't be there. I think I enjoyed it because it was a poignant reminder that ordinary kindness can have a lasting impact on even those with some of the most extraordinarily accomplished lives.
