Good morning Bread Friends,
Today Iβve got TWO exciting things to share with you :)
Before I do those two things thoughβ¦ just a reminder that you can pre-order bread right now! I was excited to get feedback from a couple of people that somehow last weekβs sourdough loaves turned out especially yummy. That encouragement has me eager to get bread in the hands of even more people this week ππ₯
Alright, so for the first exciting thing this week⦠did you hear that Governor Evers signed an Executive Order that establishes the Wisconsin Office of Violence Prevention?
This is really exciting news!!!
Here is the official press release from the Governorβs office announcing this action, along with why heβs taking it, and what he plans to accomplish with this action.
Also, if youβve never read over an official Executive Order before, Iβd encourage you to start with this one.
Last week my lovely wife, Melissa, wrote a letter reflecting on the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School. School shootings happen all too often in our country. And after each one we seem to hear elected officials offering, βthoughts and prayersβ for the families.
To which most unsatisfied Americans seem to think or say something along the lines of, βHey politiciansβ¦ thanks for your thoughts and prayersβ¦ but can you maybe do your job and literally lift a finger to enact some sort of policy change to make it less likely for kids to die in school from guns?β
It is embarrassing beyond words that this cycle has repeated itself literally hundreds of times in our country.
Which is probably why Iβm so proud and excited to see that our Governor is taking unilateral action to do something about it. Certainly there is plenty more policy work to be done at the state and federal level, but I for one am celebrating the fact that this is meaningful action with real dollars attached.
And when state budget season comes around, you can bet Melissa and I will be calling our state reps to encourage them that this one-time funding should receive support with ongoing state funding.
I hope youβll do the same.
The second thing Iβm excited to share with you - is that youβre invited to a bread party that Iβm co-hosting later this month!
I had the honor and privilege of writing an essay about Bread & Justice for the 12th issue of the Mad! Agriculture Magazine, and weβre throwing a party to celebrate the release of this latest issue.
Sneak peak⦠in my essay I write about how incredibly thankful I am for you and this community of bread friends :)
Wait - but what is Mad! Agriculture you ask?
Theyβre an insanely cool nonprofit that is working to build a regenerative farming revolution. To do that theyβre a media company that shares stories of those who are part of the regenerative agriculture community. Fun fact: this includes you, because you eat bread that is made primarily with Meadowlark flour!
In addition to being a media company, Mad! Agriculture provides financing for farmers, business planning support, marketing support, and a host of other services to support the flourishing regenerative agriculture farmers.
Anywayβ¦
πΎ You're invited to this party which will be an evening of bread tasting, meeting new friends, and hearing conversation about the ways in which a bread maker, a seed breeder, and a beer brewer are all doing work to affect change in our society.
